English ability
How much English ability should I have to enroll in the Dual Degree?
Equivalent to TOEFL IBT, scores of 86 overall and 19 in each area, or IELTS, scores of 6.5 in each area are required. However, even if a student doesn’t meet the language requirements, she or he may be admitted with the approval from the U of S (in that case, they must meet the requirements before attending at the U of S in year two). Degree
What happens when a student cannot meet the U of S academic requirements to receive a Ph.D. degree?
If the student fails to meet the requirements of the U of S, a Ph.D. will not be awarded from the U of S. However, if the student meets the requirements of UGAS, a Ph.D. will be awarded from UGAS only.
What happens if a student quits UGAS while attending the U of S? Will they still get a chance to receive a Ph.D. from the U of S?
A Ph.D. will not be awarded from the U of S because the academic requirements of the U of S will not be met if you quit UGAS.

Admission
Please tell me the admission process
Applicants must attend an entrance examination in English at Iwate University or U of S. During the entrance examination, UGAS and U of S advisory committee members will oonnect via tele conference. Each applicant will perform an oral presentation of his/her master’s thesis and present a research plan for the doctoral course (about 20 minutes for both topics). Another 10 minutes will be spent for a question and answer session regarding his/her research and background.
When is the Entrance Examination scheduled?
Entrance Examination dates will be announced to applicants individually after organizing schedules of advisory committee members at the U of S. Applicants for the entrance in October will take the examination in late August and applicants for the entrance in April will take examinations in late January or early February.

How much do Dual Ph.D. students have to pay for fees and tuition?
≪Paying to Iwate University (expected amount)≫
Application fee : 30,000yen
(applicants who graduated from, or who are expected to graduate from a master’s course at a constituent university from September 2011 to September 2014 are exempted from the application fee)
Registration fee : 282,000yen
(applicants who graduated from, or who are expected to graduate from a master’s course at a constituent university from September 2011 to September 2014 are exempted from the application fee)
Tuition : 535,800yen
※※UGAS students should pay tuition to Iwate University at the posted rates for the full duration of the school period including when they are attending the U of S.
≪Paying to University of Saskatchewan (expected amount)≫
Application fee : $90CAD
Students Fee : While attending UGAS—About $65 per year
While attending U of S—About $930 per year -This includes extended health and dental benefits.
※Student fees are for Infrastructure, usage charges and other student services. Dual Ph.D. program students must pay the student fees to the U of S directly. The amount of student fees may change annually, so please view the following U of S website:

How much is typical, full-time first year expenses at the U of S?
・Books and Supplies : about $1,350
・Residence※ : about $3,296–$8,112
